Dan Silverman (the Prince!) and David Garver speak on blogging styles, reader retention, and how to manage blogging lifestyles. Their approach to community issues and social responsibility sets them apart--a focus on the people & ideas that in turn engange them.

Projections by The Duke & the Duck

Because the focus of this event was on blogs and the written word, we wanted to do something related to words, and the typographically-inspired transitions in this video seem to do just that. More >

With this video, we wanted to create a much higher energy ambience.  The paint splatter transitions relate to the art gallery setting and the multiple background colors give the impression that there is more going on than simply a cycle of three logos. More >

Photos: The Embassy of Finland Goes Green (@PinkLineProject & @traclay) #fb

A huge thanks to Philippa P.B. Hughes with the Pink Line Project for inviting me to shoot at last night's green celebration at the Finnish Embassy. The embassy celebrates its LEED certification, becoming the first and only green embassy in the U.S. (see their story here). What an amazing building! Pink Line brought art, music & performing arts together for the occasion, featuring some of our best local talent.

Media gals Emily and Maura Judkis (those drinks look pretty swanky!).

Peter Corbett knows good company (iStrategyLabs)

Tracy Clayton entertained w/ a photo project using Cory Oberndorfer's art. Check it out!

Nearly 300 people at the event

Super talented artist Christylez Bacon. He's got a show at Atlas this Saturday.

My only fan, Christina ;-) & artist Cory Oberndorfer, w/ notable upcoming projects.

Of course, Ethan and Becca on the Pink Line Project team!

Check out Philippa's blog post here, posted by Becca. Tracy's photos are funny and fun. My set of people shots on Pink Line's Flickr.

More: I met Susanna Michelsen w/ Swedish Scene. She's got a great post about the event. Nice to meet you!

Join us Friday! @ReadysetDC presents: The Art of the Blog_ and the GALLERY at District

Update: Mentioned in DCist's Arts Agenda. Yay.

We have two great events lined up for this Friday! Part one is our new monthly event: The Art of the Blog_. Each month we invite bloggers, readers and everyone in between to discuss the DC blogosphere, focusing on one blog category a month, followed by drinks and music. This month we are talking neighborhoods, and we have Dan Silverman (Prince of Petworth) and David Garber (And Now, Anacostia). Come out to meet them! Music will be provided by Sean Peoples of FATBACK.

Following The Art of the Blog_, we are partnering up with No Kings Collective (remember Activation 2719?) to bring you the first of a new art event series, the GALLERY at District. Each event serves as an art opening and social, showcasing the works of gallery caliber artists. The inaugural event is also the launch party for No Kings Collective! Mingle and enjoy the work of No Kings Collective, along with drinks. Sean Peoples of FATBACK will stick around and keep the party going!

Part 1 from 6-8PM, Part 2 from 8-10 PM at DISTRICT Lounge
2473 18th Street NW - Washington, DC

See you there!

Whitney Biennial 2010! Follow @whitneymuseum

The wait is over! We're thrilled to announce the opening of 2010, the Whitney Biennial, on Thursday, February 25. Featuring fifty-five artists from around the country, 2010 brings together artworks in diverse mediums that reflect the current moment in American art. We're planning lots of programming, performances, and events to enrich your 2010 experience, so visit whitney.org for full details on all things Biennial. While you're there, check out new videos featuring interviews with the 2010 curators and artists.

Also opening February 25 is Danny Meyer's new pop-up cafe Sandwiched at the Whitney, which will feature sandwiches created by chefs from Union Square Hospitality Group restaurants including Tabla, Blue Smoke, Gramercy Tavern, Union Square Cafe, Eleven Madison Park, and Hudson Yards.

If you're as excited about the Biennial as we are, please consider a Biennial Membership; it includes all the benefits of Dual membership for two years, giving you VIP access to this Biennial and the next.

We hope to see you soon at the Whitney!

Are We the Laziest Developed Country in the World?

Inspired by the Winter Olympics currently being played in Vancouver, the Daily Beast decided to give out virtual medals—for not the most athletic countries, but the laziest. Starting with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's member countries with extensive data available (24 developed countries), the site took four factors into account: calories per day, television viewing, aversion to playing sports, and Internet usage. After weighing the factors, the Daily Beast found that the United States took home gold as the laziest developed country in the world.
