Update: Mentioned in DCist's Arts Agenda. Yay.

We have two great events lined up for this Friday! Part one is our new monthly event: The Art of the Blog_. Each month we invite bloggers, readers and everyone in between to discuss the DC blogosphere, focusing on one blog category a month, followed by drinks and music. This month we are talking neighborhoods, and we have Dan Silverman (Prince of Petworth) and David Garber (And Now, Anacostia). Come out to meet them! Music will be provided by Sean Peoples of FATBACK.

Left-Brain Insights for Right-Brain Pros

On Tuesday, November 17, Lawyer John Mason Dishes on Contracts, Invoicing, Work-for-Hire, Licensing and More

Sign up to attend >

Join fellow area creatives to hear long-time friend of the Club John Mason discuss the many technical and legalistic (but absolutely critical) aspects of running a successful design business — and answer related legal questions from the audience. From understanding the benefits and pitfalls of contracts to work-for-hire and spec work issues, invoicing and more, John will focus on the formalities of art and photo licensing, contractual terms, kill fees, and related issues.

John also enjoys audience interaction so please feel free to bring your questions along and participate. You’ll get instant relief for all the stuff that gives creatives the worst headaches. Now, that’s something both sides of your brain will appreciate.

Meet a Celebrity Author: George Pelecanos at Busboys & Poets on 14th St NW - Sept 10, 6:30pm

George-p

George Pelecanos will discuss and sign his new title "The Way Home". How far will a father go to save his son? That question is the beating pulse beneath George Pelecanos's spectacular new novel. With the drama, compassion, and urgency for which Pelecanos is celebrated, The Way Home travels the streets of Washington, D.C. and tells the story of its people, and the tensions that always linger just out of sight, circling back again and again to that clapboard house on Livingston Street where characters Thomas and Chris Flynn's rocky relationship moves from distrust and scorn toward a flawed, but real, redemption. He will also be discussing the late Don Carpenter's first novel, "Hard Rain Falling", which has just been re-released. In his introduction to this crime novel, Pelecanos calls it a "damning indictment of our justice system that is still relevant today." --- Free and open to all!
